Women Run Nebraska Year One

Amy, Ann, and I after BRIN's Cross Country Classic
Happy birthday to Women Run Nebraska!!

What started out as a series of many questions for me (Can this work? How do I start this? How the heck do I build a website??) has turned into something bigger and better than I ever imagined.   After the idea was formed, I mentioned it to a few of my friends, but not knowing how to proceed, I basically just sat on the idea.  Time moved and as a month or two had passed, my friend Ann asked about whether it was going to be a go.  That nudge was what pushed me to start to actually create WRN.  I began by asking friends and unattached runners if this would be something in which they were interested.  After getting a positive reception, I felt out potential sponsors, learned about website creation, and figured out how to make jerseys.  Our team debuted last April and seemed to get a positive reception from Nebraska runners.  However, I cannot take full credit for its formation.  I ran everything by our original members who offered their input on what they thought best.  Between their help, and all 15 members who trusted in WRN's potential, we are the strong USATF club that we are today.

So fast forward to today.  We have built relationships with Red Dirt Running Company in Omaha, Specialized Physical Therapy, the BRIN Running Series, Lincoln Marathon, Polar Bottle, and Bolder Bands.  We have ladies racing most weekends out of the year, often turning in top placings.  We are very supportive of one another and it has been great that there is always someone to go to for training advice or how to balance training with work and parenthood.

Please wish our ladies good luck as they take on the Lincoln Marathon this weekend.  In addition, we are sending a team to M2M Iowa next weekend to compete for the title.

To all of my teammates and sponsors: THANK YOU.  You are all wonderful and have changed my life for the best.  You helped me through one of the toughest periods of my life and for that I will be forever grateful.
