Welcome Women Run Nebraska!

Amy, Ann, myself, and Sarah at Market to Market Iowa 2013

What a week to reflect back on.  To begin, the new running team that I helped form, Women Run Nebraska, was finally ready to go. I had been a member of Lincoln Running Company for the past two years, but was pregnant both of those years.  Although everyone was very nice and encouraging, many of the members were younger than me and had not become parents yet. I felt like I didn't really belong there.  If you have children, then you know there is no bigger game changer to life than becoming a parent.  So, the idea came to me a few months ago as I found myself writing workout plans and running (mostly) alone...what a cool concept it would be to be able to race and train with ladies who were busy doing the exact same thing as me-- raising a family and moving forward in our careers!

I tried to feel out potential sponsors and talk to some of my friends about it, but found that it was difficult to start without something "solid" to work with.  Several of my friends were interested, and after collectively talking about everything, we decided that we needed to have a live website and a team in place before we could really move forward.  And although we initially didn't want to stamp standards on the club, it seemed necessary as we couldn't really fund an indefinite number of runners.  (In the future, it would be awesome to add another subset of ladies who love to run but do not necessarily meet time requirements.)

First job--website creation.  After a crash course in website design during nap time, I was able to create a pretty cool website.  Who would have thought?! I do not consider myself to be a necessarily creative or "techy" person, but was somehow able to figure it out.  We also designed a jersey that we are hoping to debut at Lincoln Marathon.

If I am being honest, the formation of this club has been a really great project for me.  We have had a really tough couple of weeks trying to figure out what is best for Anders, and there is only so much time that you can let you mind think about sad things.  I really do believe that eventually everything will fall into place with our 24-weeker, but we are still traveling down that path trying to find our way.  Planning and implementing Women Run Nebraska with these talented women has been a wonderful dose of encouragement that does more than translate into a new club or faster race pace.  It has helped me see a brighter future for not only my running, but for my family. A positive wife and mother is exactly what my husband and sons need.

Welcome, Women Run Nebraska.  You guys are awesome.

And Happy Running!
